STOP: 0x00000050 Error: HaxDoor Virus

STOP: 0x00000050 Error may occur if your computer has been infected by a HaxDoor virus. Important! The explanation how to fix 0x00000050 offered below works only for HaxDoor Virus related cases and is recommended only to experts or highly experienced users. The guide includes registry modification. Modifying the registry in the wrong way may result is serious problems or even totally disable the system. Install and Using the Recovery Console in Windows XP

  • Click Start then click Run
  • In the text field that opens type regedit and click OK.
  • Find the following registry subkey:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify

  • Find and delete all entries in the registry subkey that reference “drct16” or “draw32”,

like in the samples below:

  • Insert the Windows XP installation CD is and restart the computer from the CD.
  • At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R (stands for repair) to start the Windows Recovery Console.
  • Choose the number that corresponds to the Windows installation that you need to repair (typically, this is 1).
  • Type the administrator password, if required. Press ENTER if the administrator password if not set up.
  • At the command prompt, pass to the C:\Windows\System32 folder (you can do so by typing cd C:\Windows\System32).

Use the ren (rename) command to rename the following files (see the exact lines you have to type in below). Don’t forget to press ENTER after typing each line. Receiving “File not found” message is OK, simply move to the next file in the list.

  • When you are done renaming, type del *.bad to delete all these files.
  • Remove the Windows XP installation CD
  • Type Exit to restart the computer.
  • After restarting click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
  • Find and delete the following registry subkeys and all entries found under each subkey. If any registry subkeys from this list are not found, pass on to the next subkey in the list below.

  • FInd and delete all entries containing the Mszx23.exe file name under the following registry subkeys:

  • Quit Registry Editor.
  • Scan your computer with antivirus software, make sure the software has the latest updates of virus signatures.
  • Scan your computer with registry repair software to make sure the registry is not damaged. Let the program repair any errors it finds.
