STOP: 0x00000050 Error: Removing Display Adapter Driver

We recommend following the directions below only to experienced users! Use the following instruction:

  • Start Windows in Safe mode
  • After restarting start to press the F8 key repeatedly, one time per second, to call Microsoft Windows Advanced Startup Menu.
  • Choose Safe Mode by using the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys and then press ENTER.
  • When the message stating that Windows is running in Safe mode appears, click Yes.
  • Click Start then click Run,
  • In the field that opens type msinfo32 and click OK.
  • Under System Summary, expand Components and click Display.
  • In the right pane, pay attention to the information that corresponds to the INF File item, for example, Nv4.inf, Oem0.inf, or Atim128.inf.
  • Quit the System Information utility.
  • Click Start again, right-click My Computer, then choose Properties.
  • Click the Hardware tab, and then choose Device Manager.
  • Expand Display adapters, right-click on current display adapter, and then click Uninstall to uninstall the adapter.

Display Adapter * Click OK. * Click Start, click Run, type cmd, and then click OK. * You will be displayed the Command Prompt. There, type the following commands: * ren %systemroot%\inf\INF file name from Step 5.inf *inf.old * ren %systemroot%\inf\INF file name from Step 5.pnf *pnf.old Press ENTER after each typing each line:

  • Close all open windows, and then restart Windows in normal mode.
  • Log on to Windows by using administrative account, and then let Windows detect new hardware.
  • Click Cancel when the Found New Hardware Wizard starts.

If a STOP error occurs after you uninstalled video adapter drivers, restart the computer and apply the Last Known Good Configuration option. Use the directions below:

  • After restarting start to press the F8 key repeatedly, one time per second, to call Microsoft Windows Advanced Startup Menu.
  • Choose Last Known Good Configuration by using the UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW keys and then press ENTER.

When you start Windows, you may receive a “System Has Recovered from a Serious Error”. Restart the computer again in this case. This error message will not appear again.
